To our Future Daughters

Right now, the world you are yet to know is damaged.
A damage that is engrained into our subconscious.
Infiltrating every shadow we pass,
every spluttering lampost we hope guides us home.
To tell you the truth it will not change willingly.
The few fake a deafness to the many,
Exploiting the canvas of darkness.

History may say Sarah's pain began this movement, but her pain sparked something stronger.
A dormant rage that has resided in us long before we fought for the vote.
A rage of being defined as weaker.
Of being defined as property.
Of being afraid to walk home.
Of being less significant.
Of telling our daughters to be cautious of the wind.

We know this is not the only issue the world has to battle.
We know not all men are responsible, but every human has a part to play- men more so than they know.
I promise you sweetheart, we are fighting this.
So that the streets won't feel as dark,
the silence will speak less threateningly
and the strangers who pass will do just that- pass.
Know that we love you.
We endeavour to educate, protect and light each footstep you are yet to walk

All our love x
